Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 1–9 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (518) 334-0849. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 62 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded auto repair shops in Schenectady.

My battery terminal was super loose and I was unable to tighten it myself. I dropped by on a Saturday without calling and they fixed me all up with a shim in 5 minutes and sent me on my way. Super friendly and speedy. Will definitely keep their card for the future. Thank you so much, GT Auto!

Andrew at GTAuto gets a 100 star if I could give one. I was having an issue with my alarm going off and my doors not locking at a spur of the moment. In a panic I drove to the nearest repair shop on Nott St across from Market 32 that turned me away rudely because the horn was going off saying closing in 3 minutes when I went to GT Auto he helped me in less then 1 min to rectify the issue which was simply to use my key to unlock my door. Thank you so much Andrew for your help in a time I was in a panic.

THIS PLACE IS THE BEST!!! HIGHLY RECCOMEND! My car failed inspection due to a hole in the frame of my car. The place I had the inspection done did not work on frames so they recommended gt auto and told me to ask for Andrew. Once I called the staff was EXTREMELY flexible and even came in early to let me drop off my car since I had no other ride. They then sent pictures throughout the process and worked extremely hard to get my car back the same day….. even staying late to fix it and help me out. The price for the work was amazing and I have to say I cannot say a single bad thing. This was my first time using GT auto and this was the best experience I’ve ever had with a shop. The staff went above and beyond and were extremely kind and helpful. Thank you for your work!!!
